The Co-operative Bank is proud to be the only UK high street bank with a customer-led Ethical Policy, an initiative we introduced 15 years ago. We strive to keep our promise on value, fairness and social responsibility whilst taking care of the needs of our customers, members and communities nationwide.

In short - we believe in trying to make the world a better place through our actions and initiatives.

Which is why we’re delighted to announce our partnership with Free Range Review, an enterprise that goes hand-in-hand with many of The Co-operative Bank’s ethical beliefs. Free Range Review also creates close links with the local community (something we’ve been doing right from day one), which is another reason we think it’s such a great idea!

Nurturing beliefs

There’s no other UK high street bank quite like us. Our commitment to championing the ethical concerns of our customers is unique. Our customer-led Ethical Policy gives our customers a say in how we will and will not invest their money.

For a start, we seek to support businesses that take a responsible position with regard to fair trade and labour rights in their own operations and through their supply chains in developing countries.

Climate change is something that The Co-operative Bank takes very seriously; 98% of the electricity we use comes from renewable energy resources and we offset our remaining CO2 emissions – in fact we offset 10% more than we produce taking us beyond carbon neutral.

We won’t invest in any business that contributes to global climate change through fossil fuel extraction or unsustainable harvesting of natural resources. But we will seek to support businesses involved in recycling, renewable energy or sustainable natural products and services.

Money that’s in good hands

From current accounts, business accounts and savings to mortgages and loans, The Co-operative Bank provides a range of products to help meet your financial needs. These are further complemented by the insurance and investments services offered by our sister company Co-operative Insurance.

We’re good with money and good with people too - when it comes to customer service The Co-operative Bank has an enviable reputation. (Source: GfK NOP FRS 2007)

We don’t just make a difference to our customer’s personal finances; we also help make a tiny difference on a global scale by making their money do its bit for the environment through our Ethical Policy.
