Beautiful ambiance, friendly and helpful staff and delicious food with a good wine list. The restaurant links up with its farm shop, fisheries and smokeries to provide sustainably, locally sourced good food. The prices are not cheap, but it's a very popular place and well worth a visit.
From a small cottage by the side of the road, this first restaurant and now group of restaurants, shops etc. has grown exponentially and seems to continue growing all the time. The fish and seafood shop is beautifully laid out, there is a wide range of local produce and I have found the staff to be always friendly, helpful and happy to try and answer any questions. The drive to the shop is so beautiful it is worth the drive on its own, but stopping at the shop for some fabulous food is even better.
The success of this place has seen it grow hugely since it first opened a few years ago. Very good points - some very nice local produce in the farm shop, a very good selection of plants in the nursery, always excellent and very tasty food in the cafe/tearoom, served by helpful and friendly staff. A couple of relatively minor lesser points - the farm shop is over-full of boutique, exclusive and designer-brands (and often very pricey) than real farm shop for my tastes, and the whole complex tends to be dominated by a very large majority of elderly 'ladies who lunch' and suburban 'domestic godesses'. However, if you're happy to overlook these two aspects, overall the venue is a great addition to the local area.
I had been meaning to go and explore this lovely place for ages, and then finally a few weeks ago went with my 8 year old daughter to see and experience the shop and cafe for ourselves. Tir na nOg, which means 'Land of Eternal Youth' is a holistic centre set in a lovely countryside estate near Loch Lomond. The cafe promises 'delicious vegetarian food [which] is locally-sourced and organically-grown wherever possible, cooked fresh to order, and sprinkled with a pinch of magic. My daughter and I had some delicious tea, cakes and organic juices. The ambiance was cosy and relaxed and the service very helpful and friendly. I'm looking forward to going back soon :-)
