Harwarden Estate Farm Shop is a new business just launched by the great great grandson of Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone. Charles Gladstone, has opened the shop on the site of Hawarden Castle Fruit Farm. The ethos of the shop is to promote healthy eating and real food.

As well as supplying fruit and vegetables grown on the farm they have a ‘proper’ butchers counter, freshly baked bread, and an array of local delicacies including cheeses, smoked meats and much more. They also stock a wide range of foodie delights and natural products. In the middle of the shop is a small café with plans for seating on an outdoor terrace once the weather warms up.

I was a customer of the fruit farm shop when it was just a small shed supplying fruit and veg and I am delighted to see the business expand. I have already used the shop a few times since its recent launch and have been really impressed, every time I go in I feel hungry! There is a really nice atmosphere about the place and the range of products available is very good. I can’t wait to sit on that terrace sipping coffee when the sun finally makes an appearance.

Church Farm Organics is more than a farm shop it could fit into every category of the Free Range Review! What started as a small farm shop has blossomed into Wirral's foremost organic retailer. They stock everything you can imagine. They have a large range of both organic and non organic local fresh produce including their own in house 'branch' of Edges butchers. The fresh produce is only the start they also stock a huge range of organic store cupboard and household items, they have a cafe newly refitted and expanded and also operate a campsite. There is plenty to keep the kids entertained too with tours of the farm and special days out such as egg hunts at easter and haunted hay rides at halloween. If you love food and in particular if you are interested in organic or local produce you must visit.

Edge and Son are a Wirral institution, as the 'proper' butcher is a dying breed they should be supported. Thankfully Edges seem to be doing really well, their produce is available through other local outlets so if you can't make it to New Ferry then you can also find their products in Claremont Farm, Bebington and Church Farm, Thurstaston. The delivery company Good Food Store also provide Edge and Son products.
Give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

Claremont Farm Shop has been around for years but in the past couple of years it has expanded and improved. The shop has always been good at seasonal home grown produce but in recent years it has added lots of extras including stocking produce from other local suppliers such as Edge and sons butchers. The cheese selection is worth a mention as there is a really good range available. Since the Food Festival started two years ago the shop has been noticeably busier. The 2007 festival attracted thousands of people and was a great success. Both the festival and Claremont farm itself are well worth a visit.

Wirral Farmers Market is the best in the UK, its official! It won the Radio 4 Farmers Market of the Year award for 2007. The Market is held every second Saturday each month and New Ferry Village Hall. There is a wide range of produce from Meat, Veg, Fish, breads, local beers, plants to more unusual items like hand made chocolate, chillis, buffalo and ostrich meat. It is always worth a visit.
