The only problem with M Feller is that they don't do mail order. They do sell the best bacon in the world - properly dry-cured, thick, intensively flavoured and not wilting or flabby at all. It's worth a visit for that alone, but everything else I've bought from there has been similarly perfect. It's not the most convenient place to buy from if you don't live in Oxford (which sadly I no longer do), but you won't find better quality meat anywhere else in the UK (believe me, I've tried). If you can get there, try the black and white puddings too. Divine!

Devon Rose are great. There's a fabulous selection of meat and the prices are excellent. There's background info on the welfare standards and breeds of all the animals they keep.

As well as the usual meat and game, they sell home made products such as Scotch eggs, hams and pates. They thoughtfully cater for allergies and dietary preferences (reduced fat, gluten free), and sell a unique chemical free bacon that's pinked up with beetroot instead of potassium nitrite. They sell meat boxes which can be personalised and are very good value and quality. The sausages are gorgeous - I'm making myself hungry just thinking about them!

There's a user-submitted recipe page and a cute 'specials' board which gives the site a very personable feel.

The website is well designed and easy to use and the service is excellent. Highly recommended!

The selection of food available is fantastic. Dozens of British cheeses, organic meat (including game), and a superb selection of seasonal vegetables. To make this a convenient one-stop shop for the ethical consumer, they also sell green household goods, herbs, eggs, seafood, organic local honey and preserves, organic wine and a fantastic variety of bread and evil, sticky cakes.

Most vegetables are grown locally. The odd item comes from further afield (such as Amalfi lemons and aubergines from Italy), but these are always clearly labelled. The meat is categorised by farm so you know exactly where it comes from. Herbs come in huge bags, perfect for pesto binges, and the root vegetables are good and dirty (they keep longer that way). Packaging is kept to a minimum which makes such a nice change.

The vegetable boxes come in different sizes and are great value; they also do salad and fruit boxes, and an irresistable soft fruit box in the summer.

The delivery area covers most of the North West of England, and it only costs £3.

The service is always extremely helpful, friendly and professional and the quality of the food is very high indeed. I've asked for speciality cuts and strange bits of beast which have not been on the website and they have always managed to get hold of them for me. Each item ordered has a comments box so you can specify how you would like things prepared. I can now buy free range pigs' ears without trawling the web or travelling half way across the county to negotiate with an organic butcher!

My only (very small) criticism is that the website is sometimes a bit rickety, but they do have a product list to download and you can order by fax/phone if necessary.

Highly recommended!
