Shawsgate is one of East Anglia’s oldest commercial vineyards producing a range of white, red and rosé wines from seven different grape varieties, and is perhaps best known for its Bacchus dry wine which has consistently won national and international awards over the last five years.

Shawsgate make their own wine on site as well as producing wine for several other East Anglian vineyards. The winery itself was built in the late 80s and is equipped with over 300 stainless steel tanks based on a New Zealand model.

Shawsgate is set in a beautiful location just outside Framlingham in Suffolk. You can take self-guided tours of the vineyard and pop into the shop to taste and buy their wines.

For a more in-depth vineyard experience you can join Food Safari at Shawsgate on July 11 and get hands-on helping out with whatever tasks need completing from pruning the vines to labeling a bottle or two. Visit www.foodsafari.co.uk

Eat Anglia is a fantastic little deli in the pretty Suffolk village of Earl Soham. There's a wide range of good local products available including Sutton Hoo Chickens, Suffolk Farmhouse Cheese, smoked fish from Pinney's of Orford and Paddy & Scotts coffee, roasted just a mile up the road. Eat Anglia has a good selection of wines including Shawsgate, from nearby Framlingham and of course, fantastic beers from the Earl Soham brewery just next door.

There's a big table inside for relaxing with a coffee and the papers and a few more tables outside if the sun is shining. Relaxed and friendly service make Eat Anglia a great place to shop.

Blythburgh Free Range Pork has made a name for itself as the premium pork brand in the UK market. The secret to its quality is that the pigs are truly free range with no antibiotics or growth promoters resulting in a happier, slower growing pig and ultimately a better flavour. Father and son, Jimmy and Alistair Butler have been a widely praised for their commitment to sustainable farming and are winners of the Farmer’s Weekly ‘Pig Farmer of the Year Award’.
You can meet the Butlers and their pigs as part of Food Safari's Free Range Pig in a Day events which combine a farm walk, with butchery demonstration and lunch at The Anchor at Walberswick.

The Anchor is fast becoming known as a welcoming local and a gastronomic destination. Transformed in the last couple of years by Mark and Sophie Dorber, well-known for their days at the famous White Horse (Sloaney Pony) in London's Parsons Green. The Dorbers have firmly placed fresh local food back on the menu, in fact much of it is grown on the pub's own allotment! They work with local producers including Blythburgh Pork and Maple Farm to create simple but elegant dishes like ham bubble and squek and confit of duck on roast mash.

All the game is harvested from their own or neighbouring farms and estates in East Anglia with the exception of grouse which are sourced from moors in the Yorkshire dales, the prime grouse producing area in the UK.

The Station manages to be both a real pub and a foodie pub.
Great beer from the Earl Soham brewery up the road, and fantastic food cooked up by landlord and chef Mike Jones, who formerly worked with hotel inspector Ruth Watson at the Crown and Castle in Orford.

We opened the brewery in the Summer of 2006, driven by a love of great beers, a distaste for big business, a desire for a fresh start and an unhealthy dose of insanity.

Grain is located in the Waveney Valley of South Norfolk. An area characterised by its vibrant yet tranquil river and its mile upon mile of stunning views across some of the richest farm land in England

It is in one of these farms that we found the perfect location for our brewery. South farm in Alburgh (pronounced Arrrrrbraa) has been owned and operated by the Bond family for three generations, and it is their old dairy that we have converted into our brewhouse and cellars.

We always welcome visitors and are happy to show you around the brewery. Just turn up and ask.

Food Safari is a new venture which connects food and drink lovers with the dedicated and inspiring people who produce it. Based in Suffolk, we run a year-round programme of events around Suffolk’s unique network of food heroes. You will hear the fascinating stories behind these products, learn more about how they are produced and even take part in hands-on workshops.

A typical safari will involve a guided tour of several sites including a smoke-house, a vineyard, a beach-front fishing shack, and an organic mixed farm. “If you’ve never tried Peakhill’s salad mix you’ve never eaten salad – trying a leaf of purslane or beetroot tops as you walk around the field is a memorable experience"

Workshops
These will include demonstrations and workshops in vegetable-growing, bread-making, brewing, and wild food foraging

Join Food Safari for events at Peakhill Farm, Saxmundham; Grain Brewery, Arlburgh; Alice & John's Flour, Lavenham; Wild Meat Company, Blaxhall; Emmett's, Peasenhall, Sutton Hoo Chickens, Woodbridge and other inspriring producers in Suffolk.
