An excellent farm / abattoir / butcher / farm shop - all you could wish for on a single site, with an organic mindset throughout. For example, when you go along the drive toward the carpark there are signs along the roadside giving advice and facts on sustainability and organic produce.
If you want to know about the abattoir, read my review on the River Cottage forum.
Though I produce a substantial proportion of my own meat (keeping pigs, chickens and goats), there are certain things that I need to buy, from beef to ofal, and this is the place I go to.
Why? For a number of reasons. Much of their meat is produced, as their name suggests, by Brocks Farm in a nearby village. Any meat that isn't is of the highest standard and kept in excellent condition (there are no bluebottles in the window for starters!)
And meat isn't the only thing on offer as, like many butchers, they sell other local produce from veg to curry sauces and plenty in between. This is a traditional butchers just the way it should be, and the guys behind the counter are always friendly and don't mind chatting for a bit as they go about their work.
To top it all, they recently minced a load of my own pork for me for free. How nice is that!?
