Marlene and Rodney Belbin together with their daughters Lisa and Abi run the Home Farm Shop in Tarrant Gunville. Home Farm is a family run, mixed working farm in Tarrant Gunville which is situated in the Tarrant Valley in rural Dorset.
Realising that the farm, which has been in the family for generations, was not now very viable, owing to the problems of the farming industry, and not providing the income needed to keep the farm running, the family decided to diversify and were very keen to open a farm shop in the village where people could purchase traditional, home-made and local food.
Currently the farm has it's own free-range livestock and a profusion of ducks and chickens as you enter the farm yard. Additionally a small shorthorn herd was established in 1988, and more recently has invested in porkers! From them come the shop's freshly made sausages.
Wish I could get here more often. It is an outstandingly good and authentic Farm Shop, with excellent meat; very good dairy products; mushrooms to die for; a good vegetable corner and a fine range of high quality bottled and canned produce. An outstanding feature is the freezer cabinet, with meat, fruit, vegetables and notably some ready-to-cook croissants,pains-au-chocolate and individual Yorkshire Puddings. Inside an unpretentious wooden outbuilding is an excellent cafe well worth sampling. Don't miss it.
