Edward and Rachael Jewson’s farm shop is attached to the family farm, of which Edward is sixth-generation. It’s a mix of livestock and arable at Knitsley, just outside Consett.

The farm shop, situated in the redeveloped old cart shed, sells meat produce predominantly from the farm or from neighbouring local farms, such as home-cured bacon, corned beef and freshly made sausages.

The shop also sells the full range of cheeses, home-baked pies, cakes and fresh breads, as well as vegetables, jams and preserves.

A cosy café in the old granary building serves up tempting snacks such as cakes and home-made soups.

Supply their own meat within the butchery, the shop also stocks local fruit and veg, bread, preserves, beers and cordials as well as local artwork and prints. The meat being sold that week is identified by breed and ear tag on a blackboard behind the butchery counter. The staff are helpful and friendly and the environment is wonderful, being just of the railway walk. The cafe provides good wholesome meals, too, for those out and about for a day. I cannot rate the Knitsley experience highly enough!
