Llanboidy Cheesemakers is a small family business at Cilowen Uchaf near Whitland in the West Wales county of Carmarthenshire. Sue and Huw Jones have developed their own distinctive Traditional Cheese first of all using the unpasturised milk from their own herd of rare pedigree Red Poll Cattle and since selling the herd in 2007 now use local milk from a farmers cooperative (Llaeth Cymreig).
Llanboidy Cheesemakers
Organic Cheese Makers
The Llanboidy name has become synonymous with quality cheese which continues to be reflected in awards from Nantwich International Cheese Show, The British Cheese Awards, The world Cheese Awards , Welsh True taste Awards and Royal Welsh Show.
Their expertise and care has been put into developing a second range of fine cheeses, the Cilowen organic cheeses.
All their cheeses are suitable for vegetarians and are free from artificial or modified ingredients.
All of the milk is pasteurised by Colin in the purpose built farm dairy and the cheeses are hand made in the traditional way by Alice and Jackie. The only concessions to 'progress' being hygienic stainless steel equipment and up-to-date cheese moulds. The cheeses are pressed and then left to mature in their own natural rind.
