Since 1979, Tod and Barbara Bulmer have been growing specialist seasonal fruit and vegetables at Kenyon Hall Farm, selling fresh produce from the seasonal farm shop, and at Farmer's Markets throughout the North West of England.

They founded Northern Harvest in 2002 and appointed Ed Woolley to be in charge of the day to day running of the business. Northern Harvest satisfies the demand from discerning consumers to supply a broad spectrum of locally produced foods to both households and select restaurants throughout the North West of England. We endeavour to gather a wide variety of fresh foods and the finest speciality products not found in your high street retailer and offer a delivery service direct to your doorstep.

I love the idea of gathering all that is good and gorgeous in our area so that it can be delivered. Fresh food, very courteous drivers, excellent service and very reliable.

I'd agree that the website isn't fantastic and they only deliver in our area on Thursdays so I can't always use them if I won't be around to receive the delivery. But I love to use them when I can, and want to encourage them

Easy to use website, reliable delivery of the best fresh food at reasonable prices. The homemade pies, sauces and soups are better than anything you can buy in a shop and I would never consider going back to supermarket shopping after discovering this company.

The selection of food available is fantastic. Dozens of British cheeses, organic meat (including game), and a superb selection of seasonal vegetables. To make this a convenient one-stop shop for the ethical consumer, they also sell green household goods, herbs, eggs, seafood, organic local honey and preserves, organic wine and a fantastic variety of bread and evil, sticky cakes.

Most vegetables are grown locally. The odd item comes from further afield (such as Amalfi lemons and aubergines from Italy), but these are always clearly labelled. The meat is categorised by farm so you know exactly where it comes from. Herbs come in huge bags, perfect for pesto binges, and the root vegetables are good and dirty (they keep longer that way). Packaging is kept to a minimum which makes such a nice change.

The vegetable boxes come in different sizes and are great value; they also do salad and fruit boxes, and an irresistable soft fruit box in the summer.

The delivery area covers most of the North West of England, and it only costs £3.

The service is always extremely helpful, friendly and professional and the quality of the food is very high indeed. I've asked for speciality cuts and strange bits of beast which have not been on the website and they have always managed to get hold of them for me. Each item ordered has a comments box so you can specify how you would like things prepared. I can now buy free range pigs' ears without trawling the web or travelling half way across the county to negotiate with an organic butcher!

My only (very small) criticism is that the website is sometimes a bit rickety, but they do have a product list to download and you can order by fax/phone if necessary.

Highly recommended!
