Piercebridge Farm rears chickens for meat and also has a flock of 500 laying hens. Pigs, sheep and cattle are fattened on the organic pastures and widlflower meadows. The farm operates a traditional method of finishing sheep and cattle from the uplands on the lush lowland pastures during the spring and summer. All of the produce is available in the farm shop.

A fantastic family run farm, with old buildings now converted into farm shop and coffee house.
Chris Hodgson is a smashing bloke who will do anything for you. If he hasn't got what you wanted he'll try to get it and/or sell you something else!. Chickens are excellent, eggs have won best organic egg award. Expensive if you buy individual portions, my tip is buy a whole bird and joint it yourself. The meat quality is supurb, you can see the chickens running around in the fields. Chris now raises his own orgainic pigs, lambs and Aberdeen Angus on site. All but the Beef is slaughtered on site (I think I'm right in saying!), so minimum stress. The lamb has to be tried , the breed is Black Faced Northumbrian which is getting wide recognition as a top quality meat. I think he still raises these off site in Northumbria with a partnership farm.
The beef is top quality, dry hung on the bone for anywhere between 21 to 28 days. And you can tell.
The pork is good but not exceptional (unlike his other meats), however his home made bacon, gamon and sausages are!.
The only down side is because they are a small producer most of the meat is jointed up and put into vac bags to sell fresh or then frozen. But as with all things you can always ask Chris for something that isn't vac bagged.
The shop sells local flour, bread, organic veg and fruit (which unfortunately tends to be non local) as well as a wide variety of other pulses etc. Dairy produce is also available, usually from acorn dairy which is just up the road.
The coffee shop is good, with free trade tea and coffee and home made cakes.
Also sells local game, logs, plants, eco products, and when asked mutton.

Excellent farm shop. Chickens bred and slaughtered on site. Fantastic free-range eggs. They also breed their own pigs. Animals well kept. Pigs have large outdoor marquees. Shop also stocks organic produce. Best local organic farm shop in area, and very friendly, helpful service.
