Quaker Cafe (annually at Venue 40, during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival).
We stumbled upon this delightful place quite by accident, when visiting the Edinburgh Tattoo.
We had soon discovered that during Edinburgh's Fringe Festival, many of the restaurants were over-priced and touristy - so we were very pleased to find somewhere cosy, with good wholesome food at a very reasonable price. Better still, every penny they make (even their tips!) goes to a good cause.
The Parrot Cafe is run every year by volunteers and members of the Quaker community, during the Edinburgh Fringe season - and serves vegetarian (and vegan) dishes, using only free-range eggs and organic and fairly-traded food and drinks. Opening times are from 10.00 am for light breakfasts, drinks and snacks. And cooked meals and salads are avilable from noon till 5.00pm.
We found the food to be very tasty, and will definitely visit again.
Top marks for a company that not only provides good service and food at very competitive prices - but also has such high ethical values!
