Back in December i was lucky enough to win a Christmas hamper competition. As part of the prize I won a large box of organic veg from Riverford. It was absolutely fantastic. The organic produce was fresh, full of flavour and there was so much I ended up giving some away to friends, who also raved about the quality.
As such, I recently signed up to get another (smaller) veg box. I wasn't sure whether it would live up to December's quality - after all, that was a prize, so perhaps they had gone to extra effort to make sure all the contents were perfect - I shouldn't have worried. Even though I got the smallest box, it was still packed with carrots, onions, red cabbage, cauliflower, purple sprouting broccoli, mushrooms and potatoes. Once again the quality was superb.
I only got it a few days ago, and already ‘the chap’ and I have all but polished it off. Now, he's not the greatest veg fan out there, but I had no problems enticing him with organic cauliflower cheese with Parma ham, or lightly roasted broccoli with garlic!
What I love is that you can also add so many extras to your box. I couldn't resist getting some clotted cream from the Riverford Farm Dairy, along with some sweet plump cherry tomatoes; but you can also choose from a seemingly endless list of other products.
I know that it's costs a bit more than if you were to buy your fruit and veg from the supermarket, but what you're paying for here, more than makes up for it. The convenience of having it delivered to your door, the fact that most of it is sourced locally (as much as possible) so as well as getting seasonal veg, you're also doing your bit for local producers, and of course, it's all organic. Most of all though is the service you get. A few days after delivery you receive a phone call from the lovely Joyce - who is one of the distributors - to check that all was well with your box, and also answer any questions you might have.
Well, that's about it. I'll definitely be ordering another box this week and I've also told all my local friends and colleagues that they should try out a box too!
