Tablehurst Farm is a 450 acre biodynamic mixed farm in Forest Row, East Sussex. It is community owned through a co-operative with 500 or so local shareholders. The Sussex beef suckler herd has been on the farm for over 40 years. We grow all their food on the farm, as we do for the 200 Lleyn and Dorset ewes the farm carries. Their meat is Demeter certified. We also host 20 sows and 2 boars, oh, and quite a few chickens, all free range, organic. We have eggs and make our own pies, pasties and sausage rolls. We sell all our produce from the heart of the farm in our purpose built butchery and farm shop. Come and visit us, and our animals.
What an experience. After I had wound my way along the lane through the farm I happened upon the delightful shop set in the heart of the farmyard, shaded by tall chesnuts. Children played in the road and a 3 legged sheep dog sat nonchalantly by as I parked. The wooden barns, the busyness and the friendliness was almost of a bygone era.
Barry, the butcher, is a local legend and there are many, those who know meat, that come from much further a field to buy from here. The farm is biodynamic (google it) and community owned. The beef and lamb were fantastic. The sausages are simply the best you are likely to find anywhere. And you can walk round the farm. I have never been anywhere like it. Fabulous.
