Jane & Brian Down have a working dairy farm alongside the A30 at East Stour, north Dorset. They opened the Udder Farm Shop in 2005 to offer fresh, local and quality produce. Inside you'll find a top-class butchery, a bright and comfortable cafe/restaurant, and a spacious, modern farm shop offering the best in tasty and local foods whether breads, preserves, cheeses, pies, cakes ... everything needed for your food shopping!
The butchery is excellent - lamb, pork, beef all local and all great quality, great taste. Just recently tried some sausagemeat - wonderful - will be ordering for Christmas sausage rolls, a favourite in our house.
What a gem. With a huge selection of locally sourced food on offer, this is one of the best farm shops I've ever been to-right on my doorstep. Beautifully laid out and tastefully decorated (the pine decor gives it a lovely country feel), it feels welcoming, while the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. A board over the meat counter tells you exactly where the meat has come from, even giving the farmer's name and address-a nice touch.
As for the cafe, it has been recently extended...probably due to it's popularity! The food on the menu is all made with the same local produce being sold in the shop and is tasty and affordable. Fantastic.
The Garlic Farm - Newchurch
I have been out to the farm and its great fun ! I get my pickles and chutneys from here or delivered over and have picked up some good cookware too !
The names on some of the pickles are well deserved - especially the vampire range and several friends have had to grab large glasses of water after being over confident with the extra hot!.
