I have recently moved to Chorlton from the city centre. I used to travel to chorlton just to visit unicorn as it really is the best place to get the best organic herbs, spices, dried fruit, pulses, seeds and grains etc in the area. I try to buy all my fruit and vegetables local and organic as much as possible without having to venture to Morrisons. As much as I love unicorn they do and more often than I would like, disappoint me. I recently visited them with a simple list of 5 vegetables, only one of which they had, and that was a carrot. No green pepper, no mushrooms, no large potatoes big enough for baking and no onions!! Maybe they were waiting on a delivery? I do however love the fact that they sell products you can get nowhere else such as cavalo nero, Kale, sorrel and many different squashes. There is nowhere else like unicorn in Manchester, until that is whole foods finally find a site and venture up north. I can't help but wonder if Unicorn in the future would decide to extend their range of products to include dairy and sugar to supply the demand?

My friend lives nearby and insisted i'd love this place and i did! Great selection of food products but also cosmetics- i've been buying eco- conscious cosmetics and general body products on the net but found the prices at Unicorn very competetive (just wish i lived nearby). I also liked trying out some cocoa-bean niblet type things out for free- an educational journey it was!
When i got home i had a nosey at the website and they have a living roof too.

Good store with free car parking. My only critisim is that occasionally they run out of the bought-in baked goods. Would be complete with a cafe.

Unicorn is brilliant. They have a fabulous array of organic foods which you would struggle to find anywhere else. If you want choice then they are the best place to go without breaking the bank balance.

Fantastic store, great food and knowledgable. Our three year old loves it as he gets a free apple on every visit.

It is easy to take for granted how lucky we are to have such a great shop on our doorstep in Chorlton. It seems to go from strength to strength.

And great news that Tescos have been so far unsuccessful in their attempts to open an express store next door.

Unicorn is amazing. The first time I went in I was wowed by the range of produce. Local, organic, fresh, unusual, eco-friendly.... I could have stayed in there for hours!
It is vegan, so you'll need to get your meat/cheese/milk etc elsewhere (try Wild at Heart in Chorlton!) but you'll pick up such nice things at Unicorn you might forget the meat!
They have a fantastic ethical trading policy and their prices are very, very competitive. Oh, and their little reuseable bags are brill and you see them in lots of places, prompting knowing nods and smiles from fellow Unicorn shoppers.

Try it, it's fab!

We love a visit to this shop. Great variety and friendly staff.

Easy to get to on foot, by bus or car. They generate fresh ideas like wanting to produce their own food and doing this locally to prevent high transport costs.

Responsible, reasonable prices and reinforce their values through what they do, brilliant!!

This is an amazing shop! Its a grocery store, about the size of a large co-op. Roughly 1/3 or the shop is fresh local fruit and veg. (all organic of course) and is remarkably cheap. They also have a huge collection of dried goods, flours, grains, pulses, nuts, snacks, tinned goods etc. My only problem with the shop is that as it is vegan I go and try to do my weekly shop and find that I have to go else where for milk and eggs and cheese etc. However I thoroughly recommend it. Its well worth a visit and your custom. By the way Unicorn also recently received an award for the best independant retailer in Britain!

Great shop, if you are in the area you must pay it a visit, if you are not in the area its worth a visit too. Every town should have a Unicorn. Maybe it will one day.

This is my corner shop and I shop there many times a week. Great locally sourced fresh produce, good selection of ready meals, good deli counter and all prices reasonable. The organic wine and beer selection is also excellent and very well stocked.

I love this place! It sells organic fruit and veg, groceries and dried goods, wines, beers and household cleaners, etc. Right in the centre of Chorlton it's easy to find, has ample cycle and car parking, friendly staff and is full of local information. they're also inovative with customised bags, aprons, etc. Just brilliant!!
